The definition of ‘ministry’ can be drawn widely or tightly. In developing the Sheldon Hub we are using the same definition as the one we use for eligibility and discounts at real world Sheldon. Like anything that draws lines it has its strengths and weaknesses. For 30 years it’s served its purpose of including the people who have the most ‘skin in the game’, although it does exclude others who come within wider definitions of ministry in many church settings. We want the Sheldon Hub to be a safe place to be real and sometimes vulnerable , somewhere we can grow a community of practice, and be sufficiently tightly defined to be a place we can feel we belong. So the line has to be drawn somewhere and this is where we’ve chosen to draw it. We hope it will serve its purpose as well in the virtual world as it does in the real world. We are currently recruiting Founder Community Members as we start to prepare for the Hub to go live next spring.
