The Sheldon Hub is an independent interdenominational online community for doing healthy ministry together. The C of E Clergy Wellbeing Working Group have produced a Draft Covenant for Clergy Care and Wellbeing and are keen to engage in discussion around it. The Sheldon Hub is hosting space for discussions of the Draft Covenant in the Associate (Research & Development Lab) forum.

Ministry and Associate members of the Hub are warmly invited to join in forum conversations on the draft ‘Covenant for Clergy Care and Wellbeing’. The consultation period finishes at the end of December.

The document has been prepared by a working party following a debate in the Church of England’s General Synod in July 2017. It sets out some ways of changing the culture of the Church to enable the care and wellbeing of its clergy to be more fully addressed. The working party hopes that what is proposed should contribute to a preventative, shared, coordinated and pragmatic culture change across the Church of England. You are invited to comment on the document focussing in particular on the Report’s proposals in respect of:

  • The text of the Covenant
  • The Shared Commitments of the minister, local church and the office of the bishop as laid out in Section B and the Big Conversation that arises
  • The focus on pastoral supervision and reflective practice
  • Ways of embedding good practice and holy habits through training in IME 1-7
  • Liturgical recognition of clergy wellbeing in licensing services
  • More effective use of Ministerial Development Reviews
  • Other ways of sharing best practice

Individual situations are very important but can’t really be addressed directly as part of this particular consultation. However, Ministry members of the Hub may like to visit the Hub Kitchen Table and Surgery forums where you will find a welcoming and supportive peer community discussing all aspects of ministry, and where personal stories, challenges, struggles and joys are shared.

Join the Hub and discuss the Covenant for Clergy Care and Wellbeing (CCCW) draft document in the R&D forum.
